The Largest Wine Collection in the World
Milestii Mici
2,000,000+ bottles
The largest wine collection in the world can be found in the small European country of Moldova. Built in 1969 by Milestii Mici, a Moldovan wine producer, this cellar was recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records as the world’s largest cellar by number of bottles.
The space consists of 120 miles of tunnels and walkways whose expansive nature often get compared to a small city. Although only 34 miles of the gallery are currently in use, visitors and employees traverse the cellar via car or bike on avenues that are named for the wines they store.
Sedimentary rock forms the walls of the catacombic fortress which naturally keeps the cellar at an average of 55 degrees Fahrenheit with 90% humidity. This just so happens to be the optimal storage conditions for wine, making it a perfect spot for the largest wine collection in the world.
Visiting the cellar is relatively convenient given that it’s only a short ride from the metropolitan center of Chisinau, Moldova.
